Lab Director

Brooke Ammerman, PhD
Assistant Professor of Psychology
Director, ASSIST Lab
University of Wisconsin-Madison
Research Focus
Dr. Ammerman’s research focuses on understanding and preventing self-injurious thoughts and behaviors as they unfold in daily life. Her work integrates ecological momentary assessment, passive sensing, screenomics, computational modeling, and adaptive intervention designs to improve real-time suicide risk detection and intervention.
Current Program of Work
Her current work centers on developing scalable, technology-enabled approaches to suicide prevention, including adaptive sampling systems, computerized adaptive assessment, passive sensing methods, and just-in-time digital interventions.
Selected Areas of Expertise
- Suicide risk and nonsuicidal self-injury
- Ecological momentary assessment and intensive longitudinal methods
- Digital phenotyping and screenomics
- Adaptive interventions and just-in-time adaptive interventions
- Computational approaches to suicide risk
- Digital mental health intervention development
